Hondo Ii Professional Serial Numbers
Do yourself a huge favor and PASS! That particular guitar is (as tge seller surmises) a late 70s-early 80s model.
They are some of the most horrific guitars to ever be made. My brother growing up had that same guitar in right-hand configuration and I had a HondoII Strat copy. Simply awful. The tuners slip like crazy, under those covers are some of the worst pickups ever wound and there's really nothing positive to say about the guitar.
You can do a LOT better for that kind of money. Of course, that thing barely even resembles a Les Paul.
Some of the HondoII guitars from that period featured Dimarzio pickups, but I never saw any with covers on them. This series of HondoIIs was barely a beginner-level instrument.
You can do far better with a $100 guitar today. These were $129 new in 1979 as I recall. The first electric that I bought with my own $$$ was a Hondo 'Deluxe 767' flying V. Although it was one of their 'better' (matsumoku-made) ones, it still played pretty poorly. It originally looked exactly like this one: I threw WAAAY more money into that thing than it was ever worth (Schaller Floyd, EMG pickups, etc) trying to get it up to par, but ended up pawning it to fund a cross-country trip (went away to college). Just recently, I came across an old Hondo 767 for cheap on Ebay & picked it up just for nostalgia's sake; I'm about halfway through refinishing it from white to a mild sparkle-orange/ black. I still own a Hondo II Professional LP copy guitar that I got in 1983, new, and it was about $300 then; not cheap at all.
I absolutely love this guitar (although I hated it for a while). I think mine is an upgraded model over what most of you have experienced. Mine actually has 'Professional' on the headstock (I think it's on the truss rod cover), those E-Bay pics didn't show this. Mine also has a coil tap switch which I have never seen on any of the Hondo's that have shown up lately and it has/had a beautiful transparent wine red finish with a black burst edges. The tuners are excellent and never slip and the only bad thing about it were the pups; they were total junk. I now have a set of SD P-Rails in it and added another coil tap switch to toggle between the P-90, SC and HB modes on each pup seperately.
Love it, love it, love it!! I played many Hondos back in the late 70s/early 80s, and my reaction ranged from 'What a piece of junk' to 'Eh, not so bad!'
None of them blew me away. I had a Hondo Professional LP copy back in the late 80s. It had open-coil DiMarzio pups, a brass nut, and the TRC said 'Professional'. The guitar on e-Bay is not a Professional series Hondo.

$300 is WAY too much for it. And negative points to the seller for trotting out the most misused phrase of recent times for selling guitars: 'Lawsuit Guitar'. Enough already! Most were junky beginner grade models but there are exceptions. Some of the 'Fame' series or the models with Kahler Flyer trems were not bad guitars- this would be by the middle 80s. Also some of the set neck models.
There are some rare models that were actually MIJ from Tokai and the less expensive Charvel Number series guitars like Model 1 were either well made Hondos (my opinion and observation working MI retail at the time) or had substantial MIK content as IMC/Akai which was in the slow process of taking over Charvel/Jackson and was the importer/distributor of Hondo when production of Charvel moved overseas circa '85. However unless you can check one out in hand or were selling stuff back then and know what it is, I would avoid most Hondos, especially the lefty LP in the ebay ad.
