It's basically a big blue ball full of sand that I have to replace every other year. This big blue ball sits on top of a black plastic pedestal. It's a ball, it's round, without the pedestal it would roll down the hill.

So when it comes time to tackle the Herculean task of getting 150lbs (dry weight) of wet sand (wet weight) out of the big blue ball I have quite a job on my hands. I have to first remove the six way filter control head from the big blue ball and then shop vac as much of the wet sand out as I can. When I get frustrated with dumping the shop vac, I tip the damn thing over and pour the sand out the top. That's the point where I'm usually greeted by about 4 or 5 of those crawly critters in the OP. They LOVE the underside of that black plastic pedestal. It's hollow, it's dark, it's damp, it's HOME to them.
